Paramount’s The Lost City leaves the door open for another adventure, which could mean The Lost City 2 will happen, and here’s what’s known about the possible sequel. Starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum (as author Loretta Sage and book cover model Alan, respectively), The Lost City is the rare original romantic comedy made by a major Hollywood studio to receive a theatrical release. It’s an understandable decision for Paramount given the star power of its leading duo, especially with the potential for a The Lost City sequel movie to be made in the future.

On top of bringing Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum together, The Lost City includes other very recognizable cast members, such as Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt. Directed by Aaron and Adam Nee, the movie was met with a positive reception upon its release in March 2022. The movie has a fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and overperformed at the box office. While The Lost City‘s ending wraps up the journey Loretta and Alan go on, it doesn’t have to be the end of their adventures. It’s quite possible that The Lost City 2 happens due to the first film’s performance.

Paramount might have a growing streaming service in Paramount+, but the studio is also still in the movie franchise business. It’s possible that The Lost City will join Paramount’s franchise lineup that includes new installments of Mission: Impossible, Sonic the Hedgehog, Top Gun, A Quiet Place, Transformers, and Star Trek. Here’s everything that’s currently known about a potential The Lost City sequel, including its story, release date, and cast.

Will The Lost City 2 Happen?

Paramount has yet to confirm plans for The Lost City 2, but that could change at any moment. The first film is on its path to being a decently sized hit for the studio, so it would make sense for them to explore options for a sequel. The Lost City‘s box office opening weekend was the third-highest of 2022 as audiences (especially females) flocked to theaters to see Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum together. Its final box office tally will be greatly influenced by its staggered international release schedule, but with a reported budget of just $74 million, the film has a path to being a sleeper hit for Paramount. If that happens, The Lost City‘s sequel announcement should come.

The Lost City 2 Cast: Will Bullock, Tatum & Pitt All Return?

If The Lost City sequel happens, it should see most of the main cast members return. The Lost City 2‘s cast will surely be led by Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, with Bullock even saying she’ll break her no sequel rule after Speed 2 if there is a good story because she enjoyed making the first movie so much. There is also the opportunity for Brad Pitt to return for The Lost City 2 as Jack Trainer. Despite his character’s apparent death, The Lost City‘s post-credits scene confirmed he is still alive. Da’Vine Joy Randolph could also return as Loretta’s publicist Beth, while Daniel Radcliffe’s villain Abigail Fairfax likely wouldn’t return.

The Lost City 2 Story: How The First Movie Sets Up A Sequel

The Lost City‘s ending leaves the door wide open for a sequel to go in just about any direction directors Aaron and Adam Nee want to take it. Loretta and Alan are now a happy couple after Loretta delivers another hit book, and they are shown to be relaxing on the beach together. The revelation that Jack Trainer is alive and using a different 10% of his brain to function in The Lost City‘s post-credits scene should factor into the equation too. Jack assures them there are no hard feelings toward Alan about getting him shot, which could mean the trio unite for another improbable adventure in the sequel.

The Lost City 2 Release Date Prediction

If Paramount makes a sequel, The Lost City 2‘s release date is unclear. Sandra Bullock has talked about taking a break from acting, so it could depend on her schedule. Even if the sequel is fast-tracked, it is difficult to imagine seeing The Lost City 2 in theaters before early 2024, so sometime that year or 2025 could be when the sequel is released.
