Cardi B ‘lost herself’ and was ‘afraid to do everything’ as she opens up on anxiety

Cardi B has revealed that crippling anxiety left her “afraid” to release music or even post pictures on social media.

The Bodak Yellow rapper, who is currently promoting her second album, admitted that there was a time when another album seemed out of reach as she battled with anxiety over her music.

During an interview with Speedy Norman on 360 With Speedy, the mother-of-two revealed she was “afraid” to release new music last year and avoided social media because she was “tired” of being criticized.

“I just feel like I lost myself like with everything like, you know like a lot of like music commenters and everything and a lot of people just be like, you know, ‘She’s afraid to drop an album, she’s afraid to drop music,'” the 31-year-old explained.

“Like last year, I barely dropped music. It’s just like I was just afraid to do everything.”

The renowned rapper revealed that since rising to global fame in 2015, she hasn’t paused her social media activity.

She confessed to feeling so worn out that she avoided engaging online due to worries about criticism from her fans and followers.

“I was afraid to go live, I was afraid to post a picture, I was afraid to go to the club, and then the next day seeing people, what they going to say about me, and everything. I was afraid to do everything,” she sadly shared.

“I love talking about politics and everything. I don’t even want to talk about it anymore because I’m just so afraid of just getting dragged every single f***ing day, like, I’m tired.”

Cardi B, who separated from her spouse Offset last December, also noted that, while she had recorded a remix of Ice Spice’s song Munch, she chose not to release it as she wasn’t happy with her vocal performance on the tune.

“I did do a thing for Ice Spice, but I just did not like how it sound. I love the record, I did not like how I sound.

“You know it being on a drill beat, it’s not as easy as it look… I was like, ‘They’re gonna drag me and they’re going to drag the song bad,'” she admitted.

The rap star, who has two children, Kulture and Wave, with her former husband, said sorry to her fans this morning for “losing myself” in recent times as she grappled with her mental health issues.

During an Instagram Live session, she told her followers: “I want to apologize to my fans.

“To my fans, to myself, and to the people that love me for losing myself… Just losing myself and not being myself because of negative things that put me in a wall.”

She added: “I want to apologize if you ever felt that like, I wasn’t giving my all because of things. I’m just a f***ing human b****, I’m trying to do this s***. You know what I’m saying? I’m trying.”
