This was a depressing situation for one monkey who had become the laughingstock of society. This event occurred in Mumbai, India, in February 2016, but it doesn’t make it any less tragic.
According to local people, this monkey and other monkeys wreaked havoc in the village by stealing food and trashing for sale cushions, according to AFP. Residents protested to local government officials, and the monkey was captured by a professional monkey catcher.
Instead of resolving the conflict peacefully, the monkey was severely punished. He was apprehended and his arms and feet were firmly restrained with nylon cords. As if it wasn’t a terrible enough punishment, a throng gathered and mocked him in his suffering.
Officials from Mumbai’s Maharashtra Forest Department intended to release him far from the metropolis he had been terrified of with its antics and put him up with a new life in the countryside.
“We’ll make sure it’s fit, and when it is, we’ll release him on Thane’s outskirts,” a state official from Mumbai’s Maharashtra Forest Department told AFP. Although the monkey is now free, protected, and away from people for good, nothing will ever make up for the humiliation he endured.
