Gideon Marcus Whitchurch is now a healthy 6-month-old ʙᴀʙʏ boy . But to parents Rachel and Jeff Whitchurch he’ll always be their ᴍɪʀᴀᴄʟᴇ baby , born 39 days after his mother’s water unexpectedly ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ in the 28th week of ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ. They found out they were expecting their second child. After five years and three ᴍɪsᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇs, the couple was more than ready to welcome another son into their family. At just 28 weeks in to her ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ, Whitchurch’s water ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ. She recalled: “I called up the ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀ and he said come in right away and I was thinking this can’t be happening.”
But it wasn’t the first time this had happening. Five years earlier while ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ with her first son, TJ, Whitchurch’s water ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ at 35 weeks, this time ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀs told her that a birth at 28 weeks could mean sᴇʀɪᴏᴜs ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs. Dr Jennifer Ashton said:” When a woman ʙʀᴇᴀᴋs her waterso far from her ᴅᴜᴇ date the No. 1 concern is ɪɴFᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ. It is ʟɪᴛᴇʀᴀʟʟʏ a race against time.” ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀs put Rachel on bed rest in the ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ and gave her sᴛᴇʀᴏɪᴅs to help the baby’s ʟᴜɴɢs grow. She was also given ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴ to sᴛᴏᴘ the ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪᴏɴs. The ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀs told the couple that every day the baby could stay ɪɴsɪᴅᴇ Rachel was worth 3 days he wouldn’t have to spend in the ⓃⒾⒸⓊ.
On April 3, 2013, Gideon Marcus Whitchurch was born ᴠɪᴀ C sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ at 33 weeks , weighing 3 pounds. He’s now a sᴛᴀʙʟᴇ 6 month old with a mother who believes her sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟᴇ was well worth it. Mom Rachel said:”That first night, it was just amazing because we would stop and say. Wait, listen, there’s no ʙᴇᴇᴘs! We could hold our baby! There are no ᴄᴏʀᴅs on him!. We could finally be together as a family.”
