Having a baby doesn’t always go according to plan. The Counting On star Jessa ,29, gave birth to Fern, her fourth child with husband Ben Seewald at a ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ – after having home births with her three other children. She posted a snap of the two-week-old sleeping in a light blue and white babygro. Jessa put a sweet white bow in Fern’s hair and wrapped her in a pink blanket in the adorable shot. Giving birth in a ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ was a ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴏᴠᴇʀsɪᴀʟ ᴄʜᴏɪᴄᴇ as all the Duggar mothers ᴛʏᴘɪᴄᴀʟʟʏ welcome their children at home ᴜɴʟᴇss there are ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴs. The Duggars are an ᴇxᴛʀᴇᴍᴇʟʏ ᴄᴏɴsᴇʀᴠᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ Cʜʀɪsᴛɪᴀɴ Fᴀᴍɪʟʏ, whose other ᴠᴀʟᴜᴇs sᴜᴘᴘᴏʀᴛ ɴᴏ sᴇx ʙᴇFᴏʀᴇ ᴍᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇ, ɴᴏ ʙɪʀᴛʜ ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴏʟ and ʜᴏᴍᴇ-sᴄʜᴏᴏʟɪɴɢ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴄʜɪʟᴅʀᴇɴ. Jessa said :”Even though I ᴅɪᴅɴ’ᴛget my ᴇᴘɪᴅᴜʀᴀʟ ᴛɪʟʟ the very last hour before she was ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀᴇᴅ, I feel like it was still so worth it. Not only did it help with my ᴘᴜsʜɪɴɢ ᴘʜᴀsᴇ, it took the ᴘᴀɪɴ ᴏᴜᴛ of it. What I was really excited about was not being able to feel the ᴀFᴛᴇʀ-ʙɪʀᴛʜ ᴄʀᴀᴍᴘs. Because those things are ᴀᴡFᴜʟ and they get ᴡᴏʀsᴇ with ᴇᴀᴄʜ ᴋɪᴅ. So I was really excited not to be able to feel that and just be able to enjoy holding my baby.”
She added: “And then all that massaging that the ɴᴜʀsᴇs do on your ᴜᴛᴇʀᴜs – ᴅɪᴅɴ’ᴛfeel it. It was nice! Was so thankful.” The couple first announced in February that they were expecting their fourth child together after Jessa ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴇɴᴄᴇᴅ a ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ ʟᴏss last year. They said: “After the ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ʟᴏss ᴏf a baby last year, we’re overjoyed to share that another little Seewald is on the way. The ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ is going smoothly, and both baby and Jessa are doing well. We are so grateful to Gᴏᴅ for the precious gift of a new life! They continued. The kids are delighted, and we can ʜᴀʀᴅʟʏ wait to welcome this little one into our arms this summer.”
Fern baby weighed in at a little more than eight and half pounds, and measured 21 inches. The happy couple then spent some tender moments connecting with their new daughter. The famous pair also share sons Spurgeon, five, Henry, four, and daughter Ivy, one. On the Monday morning, the little one was introduced to her siblings on FaceTime who were staying with Ben’s parents and they gushed in excitement.
