It’s such a special moment and I wanted it to be perfect. Emma Ford, 34, a ɢʟᴀᴍᴏʀᴏᴜs mother-of-two spent more than $3,000 so she could look her best when she went in to the ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ for her Cᴇsᴀʀᴇᴀɴ sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ. She ᴅᴏɴɴᴇᴅ Fᴀʟsᴇ ʟᴀsʜᴇs, four-inch stilettos and a ‘ʟɪᴛᴛʟᴇ ʙʟᴀᴄᴋ ᴅʀᴇss’ – carrying her baby supplies in a $363 Michael Kors handbag – for the moment she walked into Bʀᴏᴏᴋᴡᴏᴏᴅ Hᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ in Aʟᴀʙᴀᴍᴀ in January this year.
Emma had her first born, Samuel, in November 2016, but after a ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ ʀɪᴅᴅʟᴇᴅ with ᴍɪɴᴏʀ ɪssᴜᴇs, her ʜᴇᴀʟᴛʜ ᴡᴏʀsᴇɴᴇᴅ. She said: ” When I was ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ with Samuel, I sᴜFFᴇʀᴇᴅ from a ʟᴏᴛ ᴏF ᴍɪɴᴏʀ ʜᴇᴀʟᴛʜ ɪssᴜᴇs, that ᴊᴜsᴛ made things generally ʜᴀʀᴅᴇʀ along the way. I had sᴄɪᴀᴛɪᴄᴀ, sᴇᴠᴇʀᴇ ᴀᴄɪᴅ ʀᴇFʟᴜx, ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙᴜʀɴ ᴀɴᴅ ᴍɪɢʀᴀɪɴᴇs, ᴡʜɪᴄʜ ᴄᴏɴsᴛᴀɴᴛʟʏ ɢᴏᴛ ᴍᴇ ᴅᴏᴡɴ. The ʙɪʀᴛʜ was Fᴀɪʀʟʏ sᴍᴏᴏᴛʜ-sᴀɪʟɪɴɢ, but I was sᴏ ᴡᴏʀʀɪᴇᴅ, it being my first, that I ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅɴ’ᴛ relax and enjoy what should have been a beautiful thing. Then, about eight weeks after giving ʙɪʀᴛʜ, I started Fᴇᴇʟɪɴɢ ʜᴏʀʀɪFɪᴄ ᴘᴀɪɴ in my ʟᴏᴡᴇʀ sᴛᴏᴍᴀᴄʜ. I ʀᴜsʜᴇᴅ sᴛʀᴀɪɢʜᴛ to the ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ, ᴛᴇʀʀɪFɪᴇᴅ about what the ᴘᴀɪɴ could mean. The ᴅᴏᴄᴛᴏʀ told me I was sᴜFFᴇʀɪɴɢ from ᴏᴠᴀʀɪᴀɴ ᴛᴏʀsɪᴏɴ, which I had ɴᴏ ᴄʟᴜᴇ about.”
An ᴏᴠᴀʀɪᴀɴ ᴛᴏʀsɪᴏɴ is a ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ that ᴏᴄᴄᴜʀs when ᴏɴᴇ ᴏF ᴛʜᴇ ᴏᴠᴀʀɪᴇs ᴛᴡɪsᴛs ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ʟɪɢᴀᴍᴇɴᴛs ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴋᴇᴇᴘ ɪᴛ ɪɴ ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇ. The Fᴀʟʟᴏᴘɪᴀɴ ᴛᴜʙᴇ and ᴏᴠᴀʀʏ can therefore have ɴᴏ ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ sᴜᴘᴘʟʏ, ᴅᴜᴇ to the ᴛᴡɪsᴛɪɴɢ ᴄᴜᴛᴛɪɴɢ this off. It can ᴄᴀᴜsᴇ sᴇᴠᴇʀᴇ ᴘᴀɪɴ, and usually the only thing to do in Emma’s ᴄᴀsᴇ was to ʀᴇᴍᴏᴠᴇ her ʀɪɢʜᴛ ᴏᴠᴀʀʏ. This also meant that there was ʟᴇss ᴄʜᴀɴᴄᴇ of the couple Fᴀʟʟɪɴɢ ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ again, ᴅᴜᴇ to the ᴇɢɢ sᴜᴘᴘʟʏ ʙᴇɪɴɢ ʟᴏᴡᴇʀ. So Emma was thrilled when she Fᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴏᴜᴛ she was ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ for the second time in April 2019. Emma said: “I love getting glammed up. I never go anywhere without makeup on and it was important to me – this time around – that I look and feel my best when having my baby. It’s such a special moment and I wanted it to be perfect. This time around, we stayed calm, which was easy, considering we had planned everything to a T. I wanted to feel sᴇxʏ and ɢʟᴀᴍᴏʀᴏᴜs, and show other mothers that they can feel that way too . I had worked throughout the ᴇɴᴛɪʀᴇ ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ so I wanted my ʙɪʀᴛʜ to be relaxing, and all about me and my baby. ”
A week after strutting into ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ in her heels, she posted the ɪɴᴄʀᴇᴅɪʙʟᴇ ᴍᴏᴍᴇɴᴛ she met her baby for the first time on Instagram, to the delight of her 34,700 followers. She said: “When I woke up on the morning of my Cᴀᴇsᴀʀᴇᴀɴ, I was so excited and ready to meet my little room-mate of nine months. I wanted to look and feel my best, so I decided to do my hair and makeup. I really believe that when you feel good, you ᴄᴀɴ’ᴛhelp but radiate positivity and life. The thought of the sᴜʀɢᴇʀʏwas ᴛᴇʀʀɪFʏɪɴɢ me, but I ᴅɪᴅɴ’ᴛ want to look like it, so I chose a ʟɪᴛᴛʟᴇ ʙʟᴀᴄᴋ ᴅʀᴇss and a bright red lip, and completed the look with heels. It was one of the best days of my life.”
