A baby born ᴡɪᴛʜᴏᴜᴛ a ᴛᴏᴘ ʟᴀʏᴇʀ of sᴋɪɴ is now six months old ᴅᴇsᴘɪᴛᴇ being born looking ‘like a ᴘɪᴇᴄᴇ of ᴜɴᴄᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ ᴍᴇᴀᴛ’. Kaiden Shattock arrived with a ᴍʏsᴛᴇʀʏ ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ which left him looking like a ‘ᴘɪᴇᴄᴇ of ᴜɴᴄᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ ᴍᴇᴀᴛ’. The tot was ʙᴏʀɴ ᴡɪᴛʜᴏᴜᴛ a top ʟᴀʏᴇʀ of sᴋɪɴ meaning he could ɴᴏᴛ be held by proud parents Jessica Kibbler and Jake Shattock, both 20, for 10 days.
His ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ was ᴄᴀᴜsᴇᴅ by ᴀ ᴋɪᴅɴᴇʏ ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴ Jessica sᴜFFᴇʀᴇᴅ ᴅᴜʀɪɴɢ her ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴄʏ called ʜʏᴅʀᴏɴᴇᴘʜʀᴏsɪs. The young mum also sᴜFFᴇʀᴇᴅ ʙʟᴇᴇᴅɪɴɢ before going into ʟᴀʙᴏᴜʀ at Nottingham City Hᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ, on November 24. Kaiden Jake Shattock was born ten weeks ᴘʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ at Nottingham City Hᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ on November 24 weighing 2lb 7oz. And even ɴᴜʀsᴇs had to leave the room to ‘cry their ᴇʏᴇs ᴏᴜᴛ’ as they ᴘʀᴏᴄᴇssᴇᴅ the ᴍʏsᴛᴇʀʏ ᴀɪʟᴍᴇɴᴛ that left the tot ᴡɪᴛʜᴏᴜᴛ sᴋɪɴ. Jessica said: ” When the ɴᴜʀsᴇs took us into the room to introduce us to Kaiden for the first time he was ʀᴇᴅ ʀᴀᴡ, like a ᴘɪᴇᴄᴇ ᴏf ᴜɴᴄᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ ᴍᴇᴀᴛ. There we were, two 19-year-old new parents with no experience of raising children, and our first was born very ᴡᴇᴀᴋ and very ɪʟʟ. Jake and I ᴄʀɪᴇᴅ , but even the ɴᴜʀsᴇs left the room and ᴄʀɪᴇᴅ their eyes out because they didn’t know what to say to us, and didn’t know how else to ʜᴇʟᴘ ʜɪᴍ. Dᴏᴄᴛᴏʀs ᴡᴀʀɴᴇᴅ that their new ʙᴜɴᴅʟᴇ ᴏf ᴊᴏʏ ᴘʀᴏʙᴀʙʟʏ ‘ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅɴ’ᴛ sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇ’.”
But Kaiden was placed on a sᴇʀɪᴇs ᴏf ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀᴛɪᴏɴ while sᴛᴀFF worked to reduce the tot ‘s ᴘᴀɪɴ with the only sᴋɪɴ he had left on his face. After six ᴘᴀɪɴFᴜʟ weeks, Kaiden started to grow sᴋɪɴ but it was sᴛɪʟʟ ᴛᴏᴏ ʀɪsᴋʏ to put ʜɪᴍ in clothes. Now six months old Kaiden is living at home with his parents but a month ago he had to have a sᴋɪɴ ɢʀᴀFᴛ to ᴛʀᴀɴsFᴇʀ sᴋɪɴ from his sᴛᴏᴍᴀᴄʜ to his ʀɪɢʜᴛ ᴀʀᴍ. He is expected to need at least four more ᴏᴘᴇʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴs over the next year and has been ᴀᴅᴍɪᴛᴛᴇᴅ to Wᴀʀᴡɪᴄᴋ Hᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ for ᴇᴍᴇʀɢᴇɴᴄʏ ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴍᴇɴᴛ six times. The only sᴋɪɴ Kaiden was born with was on his face and since birth he had ʙᴀᴛᴛʟᴇᴅ sᴇᴘsɪs, ɴᴇᴄʀᴏᴛɪsɪɴɢ ᴇɴᴛᴇʀᴏᴄᴏʟɪᴛɪs, ᴄᴏɴɢᴇɴᴛɪᴀʟ ʜᴇʀᴘᴇs, ᴅᴇʀᴍᴏʟʏsɪs and ʙʀᴏɴᴄʜɪᴏʟɪᴛɪs. But ᴅᴇsᴘɪᴛᴇ his ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ the tot now weighs 9lb 7oz.
Jessica added: ” He was this beautiful, ᴛɪɴʏ thing and Jake and I looked at each other silently, not ᴋɴᴏᴡɪɴɢ how we were going to take care of him. We ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅɴ’ᴛ ᴇᴠᴇɴ ʟɪFᴛ ʜɪᴍ properly to begin with, because he was in so much ᴘᴀɪɴ and ʀᴇǫᴜɪʀᴇᴅ life sᴜᴘᴘᴏʀᴛ. He’s got the loveliest smile and the prettiest laugh if you get him going. Kaiden means the world to us and we don’t think we could be happier.”
